It happened after the death of Moses, God's servant, that the Lord spoke to Joshua,
son of Nun, and said to him, "Moses, my servant, has passed away; now arise and
cross the river Jordan, you and all this people with you, to the land that I will
give to the sons of the Israelites. All the space which your footprints cover I
will give to you; as I said to Moses, 'From the desert and from Lebanon up to the
great river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites up to the great sea towards the
sun's setting-place will be your borders.' Nothing will be able to resist you in
all the days of your life; as I was to Moses, so I will be to you also, and I will
never abandon you."

NB if you don't know the Modern English equivalent of a proper name, feel free to
retain the Old English!
